I have been searching for a pair of Ariel headlamp ears now for weeks as I didn't want to fit the stock headlamp cowl even if I could find one, and as luck would have it I finally found a pair. These Ariel headlamp ears are part number H25-46 and they are the long ear type found on a host of Ariel motorcycles between 1946 – 1955.
If you have been following this Ariel Huntmaster build you will know it came fitted with a 2CV headlight and some round tube things to cover the top of the fork leg. I didn't like this at all and didn't want to just use a pair of spurious headlamp brackets so I needed to find some genuine Ariel ones and adapt them to suit. Ok so the first problem was that the gap between the yokes on the Huntmaster is 170mm and the ears are 185mm long and the second problem was how to keep the top of the ear firmly in place so it would not move as it is wider internally than the fork tube. I had to take any excess of the top as the bottom of the ear locates on the bottom yolk around a raised area. My plan is to cut the ears down to 167mm long and make a stainless spacer to sit between the top yoke and the top of the headlamp ear.
So everything is now cut and measured up, drawing for the spacer has been sent to the engineer, the only thing left to do now is clean up the ears and get them powder coated.
I now have the stainless steel spacers back and also the powder coated headlamp ears and everything fits perfectly.
